The Xopera

Mediterranean edible garden of Can Marroiak

From 2021 - Oliva Beach

The Xopera is the space we have at the back of the workshop. A few years ago it was covered with poplars and little by little we are converting it into an ecological garden and a Mediterranean food forest.

Spaces

Anarchy Hill and the House of Toads

Anarchy Hill

Formerly known as Anarchy Space, the now renamed Anarchy Hill is one of the "islands" of the Xopera. It is a mound, very smooth, about 7 meters square where the principle of non-intervention rules. Lately that principle is not being adhered to and we have built the Toad House, the Provisional Pond and the Paddy Field.

Ruculand

Rúculand

Rúculand is an elongated mound that runs along part of the great wall. This area is especially prone to high temperatures in summer and even in spring and autumn. This is the location of the Bichos Hostel, which currently has an Infinite Pool on the roof. It is often visited by birds and the occasional bee or wasp.

Hand painted sign on wood with a strawberries and strawberry sign

The almond trees

In the area of the almond trees there is only one almond tree and it does not look particularly vital. Next to it grow two salvias, some strawberries and two avocado trees that may not last the winter.

the mulberry tree

The mulberry tree

The mulberry tree has earned the name of the space it inhabits. It is still young (from 2018) and with each new spring it is adding more shade to the garden, a shade much desired and celebrated by all.

Chiringuito and children's kitchen made of wood for the garden

The Meliquet

The Meliquet is a xiringuito built for children and adults to play. Although it still lacks some finishing touches, it is already fully operational. On rainy days it gets wet. Lately we have incorporated a flower shop without flowers right next to it. In practice it is a shelf full of flowerpots.
