I am publishing this article to make known the differences between the different media in which an artistic or creative work can be presented.
Poster
Posters are traditionally a paper medium for advertising purposes. There are posters for movies, series, food products, events. The text usually has a prominent place in the image.
It is mass produced and the quality of paper and printing is low.
They have no artistic value although they can have a great personal value or even be valued in antique markets.
Prices: Free or up to 10€ (A4 size)
Laminas
Prints are produced and purchased for decorative purposes. They are usually reproductions of art or creative graphic design.
Prints are usually mass-produced and of low (or medium/low) quality, although some artists and designers make higher quality prints.
They have little artistic value although they can be very useful as decorative elements.
Prices: From 15€ to 25€ (A4 size)
Engravings, digital engravings and giclée prints
They are called engravings, giclée Prints or digital prints are works produced for artistic purposes. They are produced with different image transfer techniques and it is usually the artist himself who supervises or executes the printing.
Engravings are produced on a small scale. Special paper and techniques such as woodcut, drypoint and in recent years state-of-the-art inkjet printers (digital engravings or giclée prints) are used to produce exceptional image quality.
The artistic value of museum quality digital printing is now accepted.
These works may be signed and numbered.
Prices: From 45€ to 2.000€ (A4 size)
The artist's reputation influences the price
IMPORTANT: On my website I only offer giclée prints, museum quality prints made to last a lifetime.
Originals. Unique pieces.
The original works are those that have been directly elaborated by the artist or creator.
The quality of the paper and paints is variable but the quality of the image is ALWAYS the purest. The original.
They are unique pieces of enormous artistic value. They are usually signed by the creator.
Prices: From 100 ¤ to 100.000.000 ¤.
The artist's reputation greatly influences price
Others
Limited Editions
In limited editions, a certain quantity of artwork is printed. They are usually signed and numbered by the artist. They are more valuable than open editions but less valuable than the originals.
Limited editions of department stores
Lately, low quality prints in limited editions of up to 10,000 copies have been appearing in some department stores. These pieces have no artistic value. Only decorative.
Silkscreen prints
They are produced by means of stencils that have received a photosensitive treatment. They have artistic value although their quality can be very variable depending on the skill of the plate producer and the printer.
