ABOUT THE RUFFED DUCK
The mallard is a medium-sized bird, although slightly heavier than most surface ducks. It has marked sexual dimorphism (male and female are different) in its plumage. It inhabits temperate areas of North America, Europe, Asia and North Africa. It is a very gregarious bird outside the breeding season, and can form large flocks. It is a rather surly and distrustful duck, which rarely allows the approach at close range, being usually the first to flee in the presence of humans. They generally feed on the surface of the water, even submerging half their bodies, or graze near the shore. Mallards are omnivorous and very flexible in their food choices.
