Some notes on the tiger

The tiger is one of the panther species. It is found only on the Asian continent; it is a carnivorous predator and is the largest felid species in the world along with the lion, both of which can reach a size comparable to that of the largest felid fossils.

There are six subspecies of tiger, of which the Bengal is the most numerous; its specimens constitute about 80 % of the total population of the species; it is found in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma and Nepal. It is an endangered species, and at present, most of the world's tigers live in captivity. The tiger is the national animal of Bangladesh and India.
