Illustration

The original

This original illustration shows details of the manufacturing process.pencil marks, some smudges. For years I have left the originals like this as a souvenir of the creative process.

Origin

It was made for the Oliva artbook 2016. Since then it has been stored in my archive (a shelf full of messy drawings).

Top Sales

The samaruc engraving (reproduction) is one of the top selling in the online store. It is also one of the illustrations that arouses more sympathy among young and old. Something that has always made me very happy.

The samaruc

Actually, I don't think I've ever seen a samaruc. They say there are very few leftpartly due to the introduction of the gambusíanother fish of similar size, introduced halfway around the world for mosquito control. Also because of the destruction of its habitat.

When my father was a child it was common for children to go to the Marjal to fish for samarucs.

The samaruc (Valencia hispanica) is a small fish up to 8 cm in length.native to the still waters and creeks of the Mediterranean Sea coast. It is a species endemic to the Iberian Peninsula. It has disappeared from other areas further north and south of its current distribution.

Although at the time it was sought after as an aquarium fishThe regulation and the difficulty of its care make it uncommon in this field.

Their color varies from light brown to yellow. Males have orange edges on their fins.. It swims in loose shoals and is carnivorous. It feeds on invertebrates and larvae.
