Original illustration set in Bhaktapur (Nepal) made in ink and watercolor on paper.
ABOUT BHAKTAPUR
Bhaktapur is a city of Nepal located in the Kathmandu Valley, 13 kilometers east of the capital and 1400 meters above sea level. Its population is 72,543 inhabitants. The name comes from the Sanskrit bhakta: 'devotee' and pura: 'city'. In Bengali it is called Bhadgaon, and in Newari, Khwopa.
JUJU DHAU
The last vignette shows a pot of juju dhau (Nepal Bhasa: धौ), a yogurt prepared by Newars of Nepal. It is traditionally made in earthenware pots. The most famous and delicious variety of dhau is juju dhau, which is known for its rich flavor and thick consistency. Juju dhau literally means "king yogurt" in Nepali Bhasa. It is a specialty of Bhaktapur city.
